“Reflections” – the latest song by King Jzargo and Ziyaad Luceō – is a direct response to the racist and prejudice attitudes that continue persist in America. On July 5th, 2016, Alton Sterling – father of five – was shot and killed by police while selling CD’s. Less than 48 hours later, Philando Castile was shot and killed while complying with officers as he reached into his wallet to show proof of his license.
Although Canada has not had high profile cases such as these there is ongoing racism that minorities face such as racial profiling. The fact that you can get pulled over just for being black which somehow translates to “suspicious” is outrageous. The ongoing assumption that all blacks are criminals is a dangerous one that has left some dead.
Black lives matter, is something that we will continue to say and support. You can do your part by listening to these songs and attending protests where and when they happen.
