REVIEW: TAY JIREH – SOUL UNDER PRESSURE

THE STORY
Soul Under Pressure is a journal with a soundtrack. Tay Jireh flips from the sorrows of his heart to the hopes of his mind on “Hear R Prayer” and “Next Friday”. With bluesy production and soulful melodies, the lyricist talks generational poverty, consumer culture and the pursuit of happiness. Although features are limited (Che Winter$ appears on “The Establishment and “Waist Deep”) Tay Jireh uses movie excerpts and song snippets to add more substance to an already loaded album.

THE PROJECT

THE QUOTE

“None of my angels are fly enough to lift me up”

— Tay Jireh on No.1 Else

THE CONCLUSION

From beginning to end – the album is smooth. If you are looking for a balance between hip hop and soul, this is the album to listen to.  “Perfect Timing” is a stand-out song on Soul Under Pressure.
